Sometimes takes a while to connect if you turn it on in a different location than where it was last turned off, but once connected works great. Purchased it a couple years back though. there may be better ones out there now.
It worked quite well for about 10 months with my Nokia E62. I tried to get a new battery from any source anywhere in the world: THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT BATTERY FOR THIS UNIT. Then, the battery just went dead. It is a propietary battery. I was told by the HOLUX support team that I had to buy a new complete unit, because batteries are not guaranteed and they do not sell spare batteries. Not the kind of service I expect.
and sometimes it could only fix 3-4 sats even with a clear sky view. Battery life fell far short of the manufacturer's claims: 4-5 hours on a good day. It was my first GPS unit. No problem I thought, I'll just message holux for the battery part number, order a replacement part online and swap the battery.
Pairing with my Nokia E61 was easy and bluetooth range was adequate at about 20-25 feet (E61s tend to have very poor wifi and bluetooth ranges; I would not be surprised if another phone got significantly greater range). I bought a Holux GPSlim240 over 18 months ago. By far the worst complaint however, is the lack of support from Holux corporate for their products. The battery itself has no identifying information at all, which is unusual. Primary usage was in the southern U.S., and it could reliably see 8-12 sats from inside a car or on foot.
The battery in my unit recently failed, requiring external power to operate. The GPS itself began malfunctioning not long after that, rendering the issue moot. Initial impression were very favorable. It wasn't even soldered in. Inexplicably, it performed terribly on a trip to Europe.
Acquisition time was often way up (no waas/egnos). Holux steadfastly refused to provide the part number or any other useful information, insisting that I get support from the retailer (yeah right-i got it off ebay.). My advice if you buy a gps from holux: get one with a user-replaceable battery, because once you buy their products you are on your own.
I had been using the GPSlim 240 for almost a year and suddenly, the battery went dead. THERE IS NO WAY OF GETTING A REPLACEMENT BATTERY FOR THIS MODEL. I wrote the manufacturer and they advised me "to buy a new one".
You are then in the desert, hopeless.think about it before you buy products from Holux. Not even an address is provided for your to get it fixed.
BUt problems come out after a period of time. The cigarette charger was defective at the time it arrived.
it is really a great product when it is brand new. The worst thing is tha its warranty worthes nothing.
The batter died after 11 months so you have to connect it to either the computer or a outlet for power for it to be working. I rarely used it, only about 10 times in the 11 months.
And its manufacturer's website lists address out of US, no response to email request. You'd better get one from a local manufacturer.
